Drawing caterpillars

We had a guided drawing lesson based on the caterpillar in Eric Carl's Very Hungry Caterpillar picture book. FIrst we did practice sheets to prepare ourselves for drawing.

Butterfly

Our butterfly emerged from its chrysalis on the 13th day. He, a male, had come out just before we arrived in the morning. We watched him throughout the day as he dried and strengthen his wings.  At the end of the day we went to the reading garden to set him free.  He quickly took off to explore the garden.

The elements of art

We have been talking about the basic elements of art: straight lines, curved lines, vertical lines, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, angle lines as well as curved shapes and dots. These are combined to create art.  We spent some time identifying these elements in prints of paintings by well known artists. We are now ready to move on to using this knowledge in guided drawings.

Our chrysalis is now 7 days old.  We are counting the days until the butterfly emerges.

Sensorial work

Caroline did a challenge with the red rods. Adam and Cooper use multiple sensorial materials in their challenge.
